Each idea is linked to its prerequisites and neighbors. Frank-Starling sits downstream of contractility and preload; RAAS connects to renal handling of sodium. This map is what lets review follow the structure of the subject instead of the accident of what you added first.
Every concept carries its own difficulty and interval, modeled on the modern FSRS approach to spaced repetition. A concept resurfaces right as recall starts to slip, the point where a single retrieval does the most work. Get it right and the interval stretches; miss it and it comes back sooner.
In the full study format, Paivio selects from the eligible flashcard, cloze-recall, and typed-recall presentations with a fixed policy. Which study mechanisms are delivered depends on the format your account is assigned, not on your individual mastery.
When you stumble, Paivio doesn't just re-queue the card. It looks underneath: if the prerequisite is shaky, it surfaces that first, and it pulls the weak concept's neighbors forward before they slip too. Every session leaves your schedule a little smarter about you.
